Project full title: Co-ordination of Research on Genetic Resistance to Plant Pathogenic Viruses, and their Vectors, in European Crops
The aim of this project is to review recent problems, caused by plant viruses and their vectors and the methods, used for control. This project coordinates the present studies on development of genetic resistance to plant viruses and their vectors on regional, national and European level and facilitates the elaboration of joint strategies for the future. The international scientific consortium was created for realization of the project in which scientists from all European countries participate.
Seven expert working groups are established.
The work is directed towards the following fields:
- Analysis and database development on European resources and Centers of excellence;
- Coordination of the investigations of the problems, caused by plant viruses and their vectors and methods for control;
- Analysis of the standards, decrees, directions and intellectual property;
- Improvement of the genetic resistance to plant viruses and their vectors.
At the Balkan meeting (Workshop) on Thysanoptera, held on 16th and 17th November, 2006 at PPI, Balkan scientists were introduced to the objectives and goals of the project. Presentation of project ResistVir: contributions, work packages and web pages.
